Thank you i love to watch shows that are about autism to educate myself..... And i am going to make my seven year old watch he loves Nickelodeon and he has been asking alot of questions lately about his 3 year old brother.. So maybe we can talk about it through this show.. Thanks again

Nickelodeon's Nick News with Linda Ellerbe will cover autism on "PrivateWorlds:Kids and Autism" to air on Sunday, April 22nd at 8:30pm if anyone's interested.  My daughter loves to watch those specials and she won't miss this one!

(I apologize if that's not the correct link)

It was GREAT! I watched it and it was very informative...it showed high functioning, moderate and low functioning. It also showed siblings reacting to the autistic kids...it was great! I think it hit all of the complaints from other shows not showing reality and different abilities...they showed the musical savant on there and said multiple times this is really rare so people don't think all kids will be like that. I watched it and had to hold back tears. (I don't think the diagnosis has hit the husband, so he thinks I need to 'calm down' when I start crying.) The special made me realize how much my brother is autism spectrum as well.. Always talking to you, not with you. Was a loner. He still doesn't "get it."  I always get teary when I watch programs on autism!  Mainly because you don't ever really know what the future holds.......  My daughter watched it with us and I'm glad she saw the older kids as role models and friends.  I think Nickelodeon did a great job on this.  This was one of the best programs I have seen so far - Kudos to Nick for showing so many aspects

Nickelodeon did a fantastic job!  I liked that they talked about the different degrees of autism -- high functioning, moderate and severe.  I liked that they showed a child with Asperger's and really talked about his struggles.

I think the only thing they missed were showing the red flags for autism.  It really talked about how kids with autism just need to have a friend.  That was touching.

We watched as well... my 10 yr old NT son perked up several times at the siblings comments about their brother or sister.  Tony (my ASD son) watched off and on as well; so far, he really has not commented much on being "different".  He seems to just take it in stride and does not notice his difference from other kids (or doesn't care).

I think NICK did a great job... especially for the sibling audience.

I missed the post about this being on, but my PDD-NOS son told me to come watch it with him.  My NT 14yo came running and said "Oh yea Mom, I forgot to tell you."  My son is a NICK addict.  He was very interested in it and kept saying, "That's me"  He talked with me about it after it went off and said he could use some of the things that he saw to help him stay calm at school.  I just told my son what his dx was and we just started talking about it.  Since he is high functioning, I didn't want him to use it.  He now wants to find books to read on the subject.  I have found one at our local library.  If anyone knows of any other that a 10 year old could understand, let me know.does anybody knwo when it will air again?

I missed this.  I would love to hear about the high functioning children...  Usually when I watch programs about autism, I dont see anything like what I am dealing with.  It leaves me feeling confused...mostly since doctors cannot agree on a dx for my dd.

Where the HF children appearing almost NT?

I was able to watch it on NickToons.   So it may replay on that channel for those who did not see it

BRAVO NICK!!!

And of course....I cried my way through it

I thought the siblings they showed were amazing and wonderful and their parents must be so proud of them.

My daughter was dxd so late because of her existing Down syndrome diagnosis.....and man oh man......I saw so much of her mannerisms.

All in all, I think it was informative.....touched on different TYPES of Autism, talked about NOT making fun of kids and showed very real emotions that loved ones go through.

I watched this with my sons, and tried to explain to Cole a bit about autism (he is 6 and PDD NOS).  He acted disinterested, but you never know. He may bring it up a month from now.

His brother Jack, 4 LOVED watching this show because they featured brothers and sisters of kids with autism.  When they showed a girl patting a cup and a boy "self-talking", Jack was fired up.  "Look, Mom!  Just like Cole."  He now thinks his big brother is even cooler, having had a tv special. When one of the sisters got teared up (me too), he came over to hold me and tell me he will always be Cole's "big brother".  Amazing the compassion that autism fosters in families!

I liked the kids' and Temple Grandin's appeal to other children not to tease or make fun.  Wish this were shown in every school in the world.  Nice.

I watched this with all three of my kids and they all got something out of it.  My daughters kept saying oh that's why he does that, oh now I get it and were very enlightened.  I think it was great because it helps children understand autism.  My son who is dx'd with pdd had lots of questions too.  He is 10 and I made him understand that autism was not a bad thing and tried to explain every thing they spoke about.  I think he is O.K. with it.  He is a very confident and knows that he is very much loved.  I'm sure he will have lots more questions as he gets older but this helped him understand a little more.  I don't know if it was too soon to tell him about his condition but I think this was a good start.  This program should be seen by all children.

Is there a link to watch it online?  Anyone.... Help.....

It was very touching and very educational.  My 9 year old daughter was the one who came and told us it was on.  She watched a little and then went and found her brother.  I asked her if she thought these kids seemed similiar to Daniel and she said yes.  But, I could tell she just wasn't really interested in talking about it.  She went looking for her little brother and started loving on him and playing with him.  I don't know about a link, you could try nick.com.

That goes to the 2 minute intro.....I looked to see if you could watch whole thing, but wasn't an option......A couple of mornings a week they replay these Nick News.....I looked at the TV Guide lineup for this week....'cause I wanted to tape for my mom to watch it.....but they were all older repeats.....

I agree with whoever posted.....this would be great for schools to play.....my son has a student in his class with Asperger's......and he kept saying " Yes. that is EXACTLY what he does"

I missed the show and can't find any information over the internet as to whether or when the show will be replayed.

Do any of you know whether there will be a re-broadcast of the show?

Thanks in advance.
